Self Portrait in Lentil

2024

a self portrait I constructed out of raw lentils. the piece focuses on the silhouette and aims to explore how much information is necessary to make sense of something; for the viewer to have to question if what they are looking at is something familiar or not. with this piece most viewers were unable to identify a face at first, but after being told by others that it is a portrait, they were able to immediately see the face. This piece perfectly reflected the cognitive phenomenon of experiential blindness.
