Camouflage

My intrigue with biomorphic forms was heavily explored through this project, whereby the form intended to mirror the natural materials used. The clay was molded to fit exact nubs of the maple branch, highlighting the one of one characteristic of natural forms. Displayed on its side – unnaturally – this piece asked the viewer to examine what aspects of the work were deliberately constructed and what aspects already existed.

After exhibiting the piece, I decided to experiment with glazing techniques. As clay also shrinks during its firing, I was concerned that the pieces would no longer fit on the maple branch as they did unfired, but with certain precautions I managed to successfully fit them even glazed.
