Andean Systems

Designing merchandise for a rapidly scaling rare-earths company

Andean Systems

Andean Systems is a brand-new American startup refining rare earth and precious metals (gold, silver, copper, neodymium) on home soil. When I came on, the company was barely more than a mission and a one-page website.

What they needed me to design

Their first line of merchandise, worn by the team, but really made to hand to investors and potential clients.

The brand guidelines I had to work from

There was no brand book, only the mission and the website.

Turning that into a design system

From those four cues I locked four decisions before drawing anything.

Color

Entirely achromatic: graphite, washed black, bone, mirror silver, pulled straight from the site’s near-black palette.

Typography

A wide geometric sans, all caps, generously letterspaced.

Illustration & aesthetic

Heavy graphics and symbols that use outlines and textures.

Inspiration

Editorial graphics by Georg Jensen served as inspiration for composition.

Liquid chrome form on an editorial poster
Raw quartz basin with a machined steel tap
Georg Jensen silver pitcher in a plaster niche
AN ODE TO THE EARTH by Andean Systems, a Newton's cradle of ore spheres rendered in one-bit dither
